Osun State Faces Flooding Crisis; Residents Demand Action

Following heavy rainfall from Friday to Monday, several communities in Osun State, particularly within the Osogbo metropolis, experienced severe flooding. Areas such as Ayekale, Famson Area, Oke Baale, Sasa, and Ilesa Garage were notably affected.

Muroko Road in Ilesa flooded due to the overflow of the Ora River, and a bridge connecting Ijaaregbe to Ilesa was damaged, isolating the community. Residents, including Akin Olugbodi and Shekinat Olaegbe, reported significant property loss due to the flooding.

Olaegbe expressed concerns about blocked water channels exacerbating the situation. The Olomu of Ijaaregbe, Oba Edward Adetimo, confirmed the bridge's collapse and noted that local officials, including Hon. Adewumi Adeyemi, visited to assess the damage.

The Osun State Commissioner for Environment, Mayowa Adejoorin, stated that the government had previously implemented measures to mitigate flooding, emphasizing the seasonal nature of such occurrences.
