Osun Police Urge Youths to Reject Thuggery at Summit

On Saturday, during a stakeholders’ summit commemorating International Youth Day 2026, the Osun State Police Command, represented by Commissioner CP Ibrahim Gotan and Area Commander ACP Temitope Adewumi, urged Nigerian youths to reject political and digital thuggery. The summit was part of a nationwide initiative approved by Inspector-General of Police IGP Olatunji Disu, aligned with the United Nations theme, “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations.” The campaign, titled “My Future is Greater Than Political and Digital Thuggery,” aims to discourage political violence and exploitation of young people.

Gotan outlined five pillars of the initiative: leadership, security, innovation and enterprise, responsible citizenship, and digital responsibility. Waheed Lawal, Chairman of the Osun Civil Societies Coalition, emphasized the need for youths to prioritize their futures over political ambitions.

Rev. Bajulaye Victor from the Christian Association of Nigeria warned against the dangers of political and digital thuggery, while Olakolupo Segun, Osun State Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, commended the police for their efforts.
