Women Protest for Peace Ahead of Osun Governorship Election

On Monday, Mrs. Titilayo Adeleke, the wife of the Osun State governor, led a peaceful protest of women through the streets of Osogbo, advocating for an end to political violence and intimidation in light of the upcoming governorship election scheduled for August 15, 2026. She was joined by Ayobola Awolowo, the Commissioner for Women Affairs, and Mrs. Eniola Omotosho, the Special Adviser on Market Women.

Mrs. Adeleke emphasized the need for a free and fair electoral process, urging security agencies to cease harassment of citizens and political figures. She expressed concerns over recent incidents, including the arrest and mistreatment of the Commissioner for Environment.

The Commissioner of Police, Samuel Etaifo, acknowledged the peaceful nature of the demonstration and advised against actions that could heighten political tensions, noting that he was deployed to the state three weeks prior due to security concerns. He highlighted the importance of maintaining peace during the electoral period.
