Adeleke Wins Osun Re-Election, Impacts 2027 Politics

On August 15, 2023, Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party was re-elected in Osun State, receiving 511,067 votes, defeating Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress, who garnered 444,815 votes. Adeleke's victory margin of 66,252 votes was significantly larger than the previous election's margin of 28,344 votes against Alhaji Adegboyega Oyetola.

This win marks a critical moment for the Accord Party, as it retains a South-West state and positions Osun as a focal point for opposition strategies leading into the 2027 general elections. Adeleke won in 19 Local Government Areas, while Oyebamiji secured 11.

The local APC is currently analyzing the results to determine their next steps. President Bola Tinubu congratulated Adeleke on his victory, acknowledging the mandate given by the people of Osun for another four years.
