Osun Speaker Orders Urgent Sanitation Measures Statewide

On Tuesday, Adewale Egbedun, the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, instructed the Ministry of Environment to urgently address the accumulation of refuse on major roads and to clear blocked drainages and waterways throughout the state. This directive was issued following a meeting with Osun State lawmakers and the Commissioner for Environment, Mayowa Adejoorin, along with senior ministry officials.

Egbedun stressed the importance of effective drainage systems in preventing flooding and protecting public health. He called for a comprehensive approach to sanitation that includes regular cleaning of public spaces and emphasized that waste management should be a continuous responsibility rather than sporadic clean-up efforts.

The Speaker assured that the Assembly would maintain oversight to ensure government agencies meet the environmental needs of citizens. Additionally, Adejoorin and agency heads provided updates on the Ministry's activities and challenges in maintaining environmental sanitation.

The Osun State Government is also progressing on its first Climate Action Plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
