Senate Donates N50 Million to Families of Fallen Heroes

The Nigerian Senate, led by President Godswill Akpabio, has donated N50 million to support the families of fallen heroes following the abduction of 39 schoolchildren and seven teachers in Oyo State. This decision was made during a session on Tuesday, where Senate Leader Michael Opeyemi Bamidele sponsored a motion to augment the upkeep of children left behind by deceased personnel.

Earlier, N10 million had been allocated to the families of the deceased. The incident, which occurred on May 15, has been described as disturbing, highlighting the expanding criminal activities in the southwest region of Nigeria.

In response, President Bola Tinubu directed the deployment of all available resources to the Nigerian security forces, launching an intelligence-driven campaign on July 10 that resulted in the neutralization of several criminals and the arrest of eight terrorists. The Senate emphasized the need for enhanced military operations and advanced surveillance technology to improve intelligence capabilities.
