Parents Accuse Police of Demanding N50k for Rape Case

Parents of a minor who was raped have accused the police of demanding N50,000 to open a case file for investigation. The incident involved the victim, who was assaulted by a neighbor while playing outside.

Suwaiba Iliyasu, the victim's mother, reported that her daughter was beaten and assaulted after being lured with groundnuts. Following the incident, the family reported the case to the Anguwan Rogu Police Station, where the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) confirmed the assault and referred them to a female police officer for further action.

However, the parents were informed that they needed to pay N50,000 to initiate the investigation, which they could not afford. Hayatu Muhammad, the victim's father, expressed concern over the police's demand, emphasizing their financial struggles.

The family has since reached out to relevant authorities, including the Commissioner of Police, to ensure justice for their daughter. The spokesperson for the police command, Alabo Alfr, did not respond to inquiries regarding the situation.
