Police Allegedly Attempt to Bribe Family in Rape Case

Mrs. Zainab Musa, a resident of Ketu, Lagos State, has accused police officers of trying to bury her 15-year-old daughter's rape case by offering her N200,000 to withdraw the complaint.

The alleged rape occurred inside a tutorial class, where the suspect, a neighbor and the victim's lesson teacher, threatened to kill her if she told anyone. The incident was revealed to Mrs.

Musa by school officials after her daughter confided in a teacher. Following the incident, the suspect reportedly visited the school and the Musa home, pleading for forgiveness.

After reporting the case to the Ketu Police Station, Mrs. Musa claimed that instead of pursuing justice, police officers pressured her family to accept the bribe and drop the case.

She recounted an encounter with a policewoman who discouraged them from going to court, despite both she and her daughter expressing a desire for justice. The policewoman also insisted on obtaining another statement from them, despite previous statements already being made.
