Police Officer Arrested for Raping 13-Year-Old in Niger

In Niger, a police officer and two other suspects were arrested for allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl. Hajiya Kuta disclosed during an interview that the victim was repeatedly assaulted by the three suspects.

The case was reported to the Ministry of Justice by the victim's parents, prompting the ministry's intervention which led to the suspects' arrest. Kuta expressed concern over the increasing number of rape cases involving minors and criticized attempts to divert attention from the allegations by accusing the victim of stealing livestock.

She emphasized the dangers faced by young girls, particularly those who hawk goods on the streets. The Ministry of Justice is pursuing justice on behalf of the victim and has relocated her to ensure her safety.

The girl is receiving comprehensive medical care, psychological evaluation, and counseling services to aid her recovery. Kuta assured that a thorough investigation would be conducted, and charges would be filed against the suspects to strengthen the prosecution's case.
