LASTMA Reports Passenger Fatality from Bus Jump in Lagos

A tragic incident occurred in Lagos involving a Volkswagen commercial bus with registration number LND 130 XR, where a male passenger died after jumping from the moving vehicle. According to Olalekan Bakare-Oki, the General Manager of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the bus driver was reportedly under the influence of alcohol and driving recklessly.

The erratic driving prompted caution among motorists, leading the passenger to attempt an escape from the uncontrolled vehicle. He sustained serious injuries upon hitting the ground and later succumbed to those injuries.

LASTMA officials, who were conducting routine traffic surveillance along the Ojuelegba axis, quickly mobilized to the scene to secure the area, manage traffic, and remove the damaged vehicle and the deceased's remains. Security personnel from the Area C Police Division provided security, while the State Emergency Management Agency evacuated the deceased.

Bakare-Oki emphasized the importance of vehicle inspections and expressed condolences to the victim's family.
