PDP Condemns Alleged Arrest of Akwa Ibom Official

The People's Democratic Party (PDP) condemned the alleged arrest of Ewa Okpo, the party's state public secretary in Akwa Ibom, on Tuesday. The arrest reportedly followed a petition by Senator Effiong Bob, who represented Akwa Ibom North East from 2003 to 2011 on the PDP platform.

The PDP expressed concern over the police's involvement, urging them to act professionally and uphold citizens' rights. Ini Ememobong, the party's state publicity secretary, reacted to the situation, condemning attempts to use security agencies to intimidate political opponents.

Dr. Tanimu Turaki, the chairman of the PDP's interim national working committee, directed legal representation for Okpo, promising to defend the party member against what they termed unjust detention.

The PDP emphasized its commitment to protecting the fundamental political rights of its officials and denounced any actions that threaten free speech.
