Akwa Ibom Police Arrest Activist for False Security Alarms

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command arrested Akaninyen Udo, a resident of Akpautong in Esit Eket Local Government Area, for allegedly deploying false security alarms on social media. Udo, known by the social media name "AK Philo," was apprehended following an investigation into a viral post that contained threatening messages and images of armed bandits, which generated widespread fear and concern among residents of Eket and its surroundings.

The police issued a statement emphasizing that there was no cause for alarm and that the security situation in the state remained calm and stable. They urged the public to refrain from sharing unverifiable security alerts and warned that such actions could disturb public peace and constitute a criminal offense.

The police command is committed to maintaining peace and security in Akwa Ibom State and will continue to monitor social media activities that could incite fear. Udo will soon be charged in court according to the provisions of the law.
