PDP Faction Condemns Arrest of Akwa Ibom Spokesperson

The Taminu Turaki-led faction of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) has publicly condemned the arrest of Ewa Okpo, the party's spokesperson in Akwa Ibom State, calling it an attempt to intimidate opposition figures exercising their constitutional rights. In a statement issued on Tuesday, the party criticized the police's quick intervention in the matter, which they claim is civil in nature and does not warrant police involvement.

The PDP expressed hope that the police would act professionally in discharging their duties. The party's statement also criticized the use of security agencies to suppress political opponents and announced that the interim national chairman has directed the national legal adviser to form a high-powered legal team to represent Okpo.

The PDP intends to provide legal support to its members in Akwa Ibom State and defend their rights against intimidation and threats while exercising their fundamental political rights.
