Appeal Court Upholds Wike-led PDP Caretaker Committee

On Wednesday, the Appeal Court dismissed an appeal challenging a Federal High Court judgment that recognized the Nyesom Wike-led Caretaker Committee of the People's Democratic Party (PDP). The three-member panel unanimously decided that the appeal, brought by the Tanimu Turaki-led faction, was academic and provided no benefit to the party.

The court noted that the issues regarding the party's leadership had already been settled by a prior ruling from the Supreme Court, which nullified the November 15-16, 2025 convention that produced the Turaki faction. The court emphasized that the Caretaker Committee, led by Abdulrahman Mohammed, was validly recognized and that the appeal did not present a live issue for adjudication.

Justice Uchechukwu Onyemenam delivered the lead judgment, stating that the appeal could not be entertained as it lacked a legal foundation and was based on a convention that had already been declared null and void.
