PDP Loses Final Jigawa Assembly Seat as Minority Leader Defects

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has lost its final seat in the Jigawa State House of Assembly due to the defection of its Minority Leader, Hon. Kabiru Muhammad, who represented the Birnin Kudu Constituency.

Hon. Muhammad announced his resignation from the PDP during a plenary session on Thursday, attributing his decision to the impressive developmental achievements of Governor Umar Namadi's administration over the past three years.

He stated that his choice followed consultations with family, political associates, and stakeholders in his constituency. Hon.

Muhammad expressed that his experience in the Assembly led him to recognize the governor's commitment to development through people-oriented policies. Approximately 1,000 supporters accompanied him to join the APC.

The Speaker of the Jigawa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon.

Haruna Aliyu Dangyatin, welcomed him, describing the defection as timely. Following the announcement, Hon.

Muhammad was officially received by Governor Umar Namadi at the Government House in Dutse, where the governor assured him of equal treatment within the APC. This defection leaves the PDP without representation in the 30-member Assembly, granting the APC total control.
