Shariah Council Urges Action Against Plateau Killings

The Supreme Council for Shariah in Nigeria (SCSN) has called on the government to transition from condemning violence to implementing proactive measures to end the recurring cycle of violence in Plateau State. This statement was made following a recent incident where 30 people were killed in Angwan Rukuba, Jos North Local Government Area.

The SCSN, represented by its Secretary General Nafiu Baba Ahmad, expressed outrage over the attacks and emphasized that mere statements of condemnation are no longer acceptable without corresponding actions. The council highlighted concerns about the premeditated nature of the attacks, suggesting possible involvement of funded groups, including foreign elements.

They urged the government and security agencies to take urgent and decisive action to protect citizens' lives and properties. Additionally, the SCSN called for a thorough investigation into the incidents and the identification and prosecution of those responsible, including sponsors.

They also urged religious leaders to promote peace and avoid actions that could escalate tensions.
