Onyema Critiques Tinubu's CCTV Plan for Plateau Security

Franci Onyema, a chieftain of the National Rescue Movement, expressed strong reservations regarding President Bola Tinubu's announcement to deploy 5,000 AI-enabled surveillance cameras in Plateau State as a security measure. Following a deadly attack in Angwan Rukuba that resulted in at least 27 fatalities, Onyema warned that such measures are insufficient to address Nigeria's ongoing security challenges.

He argued that focusing solely on surveillance infrastructure in a single city could inadvertently worsen insecurity across the country. Onyema emphasized that the government must adopt a holistic framework to effectively tackle the complex issues surrounding insecurity rather than relying on what he termed "half-baked ideas." His comments came amid growing criticism of the federal government's handling of security issues, particularly following Tinubu's condolence visit to Plateau State, which former Vice President Atiku Abubakar described as lacking empathy and urgency.
