Plateau State Appoints Jonathan Zam as New VIO Director

The Plateau State Government has appointed Jonathan Zam as the new director of the Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO) following reports of misconduct and harassment by previous personnel. The announcement was made by Davou Jatau, the head of the Ministry of Transport, during a press briefing.

The government has pledged to investigate allegations of excess personnel and misconduct within the agency, with an independent committee set to be inaugurated in February 2026. The committee, chaired by Istifanu Dimang, will engage with various stakeholders, including public transport unions, to ensure a thorough investigation.

Zam's appointment is part of a broader effort by the government to address anomalies from previous administrations and improve service delivery. He has been tasked with restoring public confidence in the VIO, enforcing standards fairly, and upholding discipline among officers.

The government emphasized a zero-tolerance policy towards misconduct and assured that accountability would remain a priority.
