Police Arrest Fake Inspector in Akwa Ibom, Recover Uniforms

On July 5, 2026, at approximately 2:30 PM, the Akwa Ibom State Police Command arrested Precious Joseph, who was impersonating a police inspector. The arrest took place along Atiku Abubakar in Uyo during a routine stop and search operation.

Joseph, a resident of Ikot Ekpen in Akwa Ibom and originally from Nemb Local Government Area in Bayelsa State, was riding a motorcycle without a registration number. Upon being asked to identify himself, he presented a police warrant card bearing the name Inspector Daniel, which raised suspicion among the officers.

A thorough search led to the recovery of several items, including police berets, insignia, an inspector rank badge, PMF uniform, military camouflage sweater, a lawyer's wig, and two pairs of desert boots. Joseph is currently in police custody undergoing intensive interrogation to determine the source of the recovered items and to identify any possible accomplices.

The Commissioner of Police, Baba Azar, assured the public of the command's commitment to dismantling criminal networks that exploit security agencies.
