Kwara Police Arrest Five Kidnapping Suspects in Operation

On April 23, 2026, the Kwara State Police Command arrested five suspects linked to recent kidnapping incidents in the Idya Community. The operation was part of a broader crackdown on violent crime and was conducted by the police's anti-kidnap team in collaboration with local vigilante groups.

The arrested individuals include Idri Umar, Muham Usman, and Abdullahi Abubakar, who were directly connected to the abduction of five residents in the area. Additionally, two more suspects, Mohammad Awal and Sani Mallam Musa, were apprehended following information provided by two kidnapping victims who had escaped captivity.

Items recovered from the suspects included a modified AK-47 rifle and eight rounds of live ammunition. Police spokesperson Adetoun Ejir Adeyemi assured residents that efforts to dismantle kidnapping networks across the state are ongoing, and the suspects will be prosecuted upon the conclusion of the investigation.
