Man Arrested for Girlfriend's Murder in Kaduna

Manaseh Bitrus Jatau has been arrested in connection with the murder of his girlfriend, Rebecca Ojonike Jeremiah, 35, whose body was discovered on a street in the Romi area of Kaduna on Saturday, September 5, 2026. The police found her body along Mai Angwa Street at around 7 am, with cotton wool stuffed in her nose.

Following the discovery, detectives transported her to St Gerald Hospital, Kakuri, where a doctor confirmed her death. The Kaduna Police Command's Public Relations Officer, Mansir Hassan, announced Jatau's arrest on Friday, September 11, 2026.

Investigators traced Jeremiah's last known contacts, revealing that Jatau was the last person to communicate with her before her death, having invited her to meet at Ebano Joint in Romi. He was arrested at his workplace, Tomato Company, in the Maraban Jos area.

During interrogation, Jatau confessed to the murder and to disposing of Jeremiah's body in an open field near his home. The Commissioner of Police, Rabiu Muhammad, condemned the killing and emphasized the need for peaceful conflict resolution.

Jatau remains in custody as investigations continue, with charges expected to be filed in court.
