Man Arrested for Alleged Arson in Calabar, Cross River

The Cross River State Police Command arrested 41-year-old Bassey Ekpo for allegedly setting ablaze a house located at 8 Miles in Calabar, the state capital. The incident occurred on Friday, September 11, 2026, and was reported to the Ikot Omin Police Division by the occupant, Ekemini Stephen, who was informed by a neighbor while attending church.

Following the report, police operatives visited the scene to gather evidence, including taking photographs. With the assistance of neighbors, Bassey Ekpo was apprehended and taken to the police station.

During preliminary questioning, he allegedly claimed that he was sent by his 61-year-old mother, who is currently at large and has been identified as the alleged instigator of the incident. ASP Sunday Eitokpah, the Police Public Relations Officer, stated that the investigation is ongoing to determine the circumstances of the fire and the involvement of other individuals.

The police assured the public that anyone found culpable would face the full weight of the law.
