Bayelsa Police Arrest Second Suspect in Bridge Vandalism

The Bayelsa State Police Command has arrested a second suspect, Pere Daniel, aged 31, in connection with the alleged vandalism of the newly commissioned Angiama Oporoma Bridge in the Southern Ijaw Local Government Area. His arrest occurred on July 14, 2023, at approximately 5 p.m. on Obel Street in Yenagoa, following credible intelligence.

The first suspect, Daniel Tarila, aged 26, was apprehended earlier on July 3, 2023, in Angiama, where he was found in possession of two iron plates allegedly removed from the bridge. Tarila is currently remanded at Okaka Custodial Centre pending further legal proceedings.

Police spokesperson Musa Moham stated that the investigation is ongoing and that both suspects will be charged in court upon completion of the investigation. The Commissioner of Police for Bayelsa State, CP Iyamah Daniel Edebor, reaffirmed the command's commitment to safeguarding public infrastructure and warned against acts of vandalism and sabotage.
