Police Arrest Man in Viral Video Assaulting Woman

The Abia State Police Command announced the arrest of Agwu Ukpo, a 37-year-old male from Akanu Ohafia, in connection with a viral video showing him assaulting Amarachi Chiyer over a dispute regarding a pot of soup. The arrest was made on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Danladi Isa, and was facilitated by the Violent Crime Response Unit of the Abia Command.

DSP Maureen Chinaka, the police public relations officer, stated that the case is currently under discreet investigation by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID). Agwu Ukpo will be charged with assault and attempted murder upon the conclusion of the investigation.

The police condemned the act, describing it as barbaric and inhumane, and urged the public to refrain from violence. The command reiterated its commitment to ensuring justice and that perpetrators of crimes will face the full weight of the law.
