Oyo Police Arrest Suspect, Seize Pistol and Drugs

On July 11, 2026, at approximately 9:30 PM, the Oyo State Police Command conducted a stop-and-search operation along Oshuntokun Avenue in Bodija, Ibadan, resulting in the arrest of a suspect identified as Ham Lateef. The operation was part of ongoing efforts to combat criminal activities and the proliferation of illegal firearms in the state.

During the operation, three males on a Bajaj motorcycle with registration number DTN 678 QA were intercepted. While searching, one suspect discarded a small bag near a drainage area and fled the scene, while Ham Lateef was apprehended.

The discarded bag contained a locally fabricated pistol with live cartridges and sachets of a substance believed to be tramadol. Johnson Adenola, a commission police officer, reassured the public of the command's commitment to proactive intelligence-led policing and urged community members to provide credible information to assist the police.
