Oyo Police Arrest Two Suspected Armed Robbers

On July 5, 2026, the Oyo State Police Command arrested two suspected armed robbers and recovered a firearm following a distress call received at their control room in Eleyel, Ibadan. The incident occurred in the early hours when a gang of armed robbers reportedly blocked the Oyo-Iwo Expressway near Akoda Village in the Afijio Local Government Area, attacking motorists and passengers traveling to Iwo Town.

Victims sustained machete injuries during the attack. The Commissioner of Police, CP Abimbola Olugbenga, directed the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) to respond swiftly to the incident.

The operation led to the recovery of a single-barrel gun and two clubs believed to be used by the criminal gang. Further intelligence-driven investigations culminated in the arrest of suspects Abubakar Jape and Sheu Dengi, who confessed to their involvement in the robbery operations.
