Police Arrest Alleged Mastermind of Ebonyi Monarch's Murder

The Ebonyi State Police Command has apprehended Nwazunku Stephen, who is identified as the alleged mastermind behind the kidnapping and murder of traditional ruler Ezeogo Franci Igw. The police conducted sustained intelligence gathering and surveillance operations following the abduction of Igw on March 2, 2026, during a church service, after which he was killed.

Earlier, nine suspects had been arrested in connection with the incident, including members of the Progress Congress. Police spokesperson Joshua Ukandu confirmed the developments in a statement on Tuesday.

The operation led to the recovery of several firearms, including an SMG rifle, a pump-action rifle, three locally made Beretta pistols, and assorted ammunition. The police assured the public that investigations are ongoing and that those connected to the crime will be brought to justice.
