Kwara Police Arrest 20-Year-Old Suspected Terrorist

On April 1, 2026, a 20-year-old male named Mallami Abubakar was arrested by a joint patrol team comprising members of the Kwara State Police Command, the National Forest Guard, and the Kaiama Vigilant Group during a routine patrol in Nanu, Kaiama Local Government Area, Kwara State. The arrest followed preliminary investigations that revealed Abubakar had allegedly contacted an accomplice identified only as Babi on March 30, 2026, with intentions to travel to Farinsuni via Baruten Local Government Area to join a group believed to be affiliated with the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP). Abubakar hails from Isanlu, Dankuturu in Kogi State. The Kwara State Police Command, through spokesperson Adetoun Ejir Adeyemi, confirmed the arrest and stated that investigations are ongoing to ascertain the extent of Abubakar's involvement and to apprehend other individuals connected to the case. The State Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, reiterated the commitment to ensuring the safety and security of residents.
