Bayelsa Workers Arrested for N500m Equipment Theft

The Bayelsa State Police Command arrested three staff members of the Bayelsa State Ministry of Labour for allegedly conspiring to steal government equipment valued at N500 million. The suspects, identified as Wadi Igiran (51), Nikad Sundai (59), and Azabia Yaki (59), were apprehended following an investigation triggered by a petition submitted to the police.

The petition led to an inspection of the ministry's equipment store on June 22, 2026, where several valuable items, including a 110 KVA Perkins generator, a forklift, a lathe machine, and an electric filling machine, were discovered missing. The police spokesperson, DSP Musa Moham, disclosed that the investigation was initiated by the State Criminal Investigation Department after the petition was received.

Upon conclusion of the investigation, the suspects will be charged in court. The police command reiterated its commitment to protecting public assets and combating economic-related crimes.
