Yobe Police Arrest Three for Vandalism of Power Infrastructure

The Yobe State Police Command arrested three suspects linked to the vandalism and theft of critical power infrastructure. The operation took place on Thursday, July 23, 2026, in Gashua, where 27-year-old Abubakar Idris, an aluminium pot maker from Sabon Gari Area, was apprehended.

Authorities recovered two large bundles of suspected stolen power cables from him. Further investigations led to the arrests of two additional suspects, Sumaila Suleiman, 25, and Ibrahim Ado, 26.

The police also seized a tricycle (Keke NAPEP) with Registration No. 497 DPH, allegedly used to transport the stolen items, along with an unregistered Boxer motorcycle believed to have been involved in the criminal activities. Commissioner of Police, CP Usman Kanfani Jibrin, reiterated the command’s zero-tolerance policy towards vandalism and economic sabotage, directing all tactical and investigative units to intensify efforts to apprehend other members of the syndicate.

Investigations are ongoing to determine the ownership of the recovered items.
