Oyo Police Arrest Three for N200m Railway Vandalism

On July 14, 2026, the Oyo State Police Command arrested three suspects involved in a railway vandalism syndicate, recovering stolen railway tracks valued at approximately N200 million. The suspects, identified as Wahe Ayind (54), Muham Sani (27), and Hassan Ibrahim (22), were intercepted in the Gambari Oril-Igbon area at 1:45 PM following a tip-off from vigilant members of the public.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the railway tracks had been unlawfully removed from Niger State and were being transported to Lagos for illegal purposes. The suspects played distinct roles in the syndicate, including acting as a contract driver responsible for conveying the stolen railway tracks.

The police also noted that the operation involved a temporary storage location in Ogbomoso before the final destination. Oyo State Police Commissioner Olugbenga Abimbola commended the public for their timely information, which led to the successful operation, and reaffirmed the command's commitment to protecting critical national infrastructure against economic sabotage.
