Yobe Police Arrest Two for Alleged Newborn Murder

The Yobe State Police Command arrested two suspects related to the alleged killing of a newborn baby girl, whose remains were discovered concealed in a box abandoned behind a mosque in Damaturu. The police spokesperson, Dungu Abdulkarim, disclosed that the arrests followed a swift investigation initiated after a distress call received on June 23, 2026, regarding the alleged murder of the infant.

Preliminary investigations revealed that a woman who had recently given birth was allegedly involved in circumstances leading to the baby's death. The newborn girl was reportedly strangled, and her remains were hidden inside a box dumped in the Anguwar Boka area of Damaturu.

Abdulkarim emphasized that the police are committed to ensuring justice and will continue to gather relevant facts. The State Commissioner of Police, Usman Kanfani Jibrin, condemned the alleged killing, describing it as a heinous and inhuman act, and reiterated the importance of protecting children's rights.
