Plateau Police Arrest Two Suspected Car Thieves

The Plateau State Police Command arrested two suspected members of a vehicle theft syndicate and recovered a stolen Toyota Hilux in an operation that traced the vehicle to Bauchi State. The incident was reported on 21st July 2026, at 7:00 am, involving a white Toyota Hilux, Model 2022, with Registration Number 18D-35-FG.

Following the report, Assistant Inspector General of Police for Plateau State, AIG Bassey Ewah, directed a manhunt for the vehicle and suspects. Utilizing intelligence and technology, operatives tracked the vehicle to Bauchi State, where it was recovered along with two suspects: Ibrahim Tijjani, 30, and Mohammed Umar, 33, both from Jos North Local Government Area.

Investigations revealed that Tijjani had secretly stolen the vehicle key and misled both the vehicle owner and security personnel, claiming the vehicle would remain temporarily at a bakery. The following day, he returned with the stolen key, accessed the vehicle, and drove it away.
