Borno Police Arrest Five for 'Tinubu Must Go' T-Shirts

The Borno State Police Command arrested five men in Maiduguri for allegedly printing and wearing T-shirts inscribed with "Tinubu Must Go." The arrests occurred on September 25, 2026, and the men face charges of criminal conspiracy, inciting disturbance, disturbance of public peace, and thuggery, as outlined in a First Information Report from the State Criminal Investigation Department. The defendants, identified as Baba Aji Gremami (44), Mustapha Abba Yemen (28), Abbacha Mohammed Ali (32), Adam Umar Gubio (21), and Abdulhamid Mohammed (21), pleaded not guilty in Chief Magistrate Court I.

Their legal counsel requested bail, with a ruling scheduled for October 6, 2026, and the substantive trial set for October 26. Amnesty International condemned the arrests, labeling them arbitrary and unlawful, asserting that wearing politically charged clothing does not constitute a criminal act.

The organization called for the immediate release of the detainees and criticized the suppression of political dissent in Borno State.
