Borno Police Arrest Five for Wearing 'Tinubu Must Go' Shirts

The Borno State Police Command arrested and arraigned five men in Maiduguri for allegedly printing and wearing T-shirts inscribed with "Tinubu Must Go." The suspects are Baba Aji Gremami (44), Mustapha Abba Yemen (28), Abbacha Mohammed Ali (32), Adam Umar Gubio (21), and Abdulhamid Mohammed (21). According to a First Information Report (FIR) from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), the incident occurred on September 25, 2026, at approximately 11:00 a.m. near the West End Roundabout in Maiduguri.

The police charged the defendants with criminal conspiracy, inciting disturbance, disturbance of public peace, and thuggery, citing violations of Sections 60, 78, 79, and 392 of the Borno State Penal Code. All five defendants pleaded not guilty in Chief Magistrate Court I, and a bail application was filed.

The judge adjourned the bail ruling to October 6, 2026, with the trial set for October 26, 2026. Amnesty International criticized the charges as bizarre and labeled the arrests as arbitrary, asserting that expressing political dissent through clothing is a fundamental human right.
