Enugu Police Detain Man for Attempted Rape of Pregnant Woman

On March 14, 2023, a 30-year-old pregnant woman, whose name has been withheld, was attacked by 24-year-old Desmond Ugwu while taking a short walk home in Affa Community, Udi Local Government Area, Enugu State. The victim was ambushed from behind, where Ugwu allegedly threatened her with a cutlass, attempted to strangle her, and forcibly tried to rape her.

The victim reported the incident to the police at 6:15 AM on March 15, prompting immediate action from the Enugu Police. The police swiftly arrested and detained Ugwu following the report.

The victim was subsequently taken to the hospital for medical examination and treatment. The statement was issued by Enugu Police spokesman Daniel Ndukw, highlighting the seriousness of the crime and the prompt response of law enforcement.
