Mother and Boyfriend Sell Newborn for N2.5 Million in Lagos

A 28-year-old mother and her boyfriend are implicated in the sale of their newborn for N2.5 million at a private hospital in Ikorodu, Lagos. The mother initially sought the assistance of a traditional birth attendant for delivery; however, complications arose, necessitating a transfer to a private hospital where a doctor performed a successful caesarean section.

Shortly after the delivery, the newborn was handed over to an unidentified buyer for the agreed amount. The Lagos State Police Command, led by Mr.

Fatai Tijani, has transferred the case to the Area E Command in Festac for further investigation into allegations of conspiracy and child trafficking. The mother reportedly consented to the arrangement but later raised concerns after receiving only N700,000 of the agreed payment.

The police are currently unable to trace the buyer due to false information provided, and a 31-year-old doctor and the traditional birth attendant involved are expected to face charges upon the investigation's conclusion.
