Police Arrest Man with 100 AK-47 Rounds in Zamfara

On April 17, 2026, at approximately 7:20 AM, the Zamfara State Police Command intercepted a 30-year-old man named Umar Sani at the Yankara border checkpoint between Zamfara and Katsina states. During a routine stop and search operation, police discovered 100 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition for AK-47 rifles concealed within the fuel tank of Sani's red Boxer motorcycle.

The arrest was made following credible intelligence that prompted the police to intensify their search efforts. The suspect, hailing from Magami village in Gusau Local Government Area, is currently in custody as the State Criminal Investigation Department conducts further investigations to uncover the source of the ammunition and any potential connections to a larger network.

The Commissioner of Police, CP M Bello, emphasized the command's proactive approach to disrupting the supply chain of illegal arms in the state and urged residents to remain vigilant and provide credible information to security agencies.
