Police Arrest 25-Year-Old for Vandalizing Abia Market

Chigozirim Elem, a 25-year-old resident of Ugwunchara in Umuahia North Local Government Area, was arrested by the Abia State Police Command for vandalizing shops at Ubani Government Market. According to Maureen Chinaka, the Public Relations Officer, the incident occurred on July 11, 2026, when Elem unlawfully accessed four unallocated shops, causing malicious damage and stealing four double iron doors and one single iron door.

Upon being spotted by security personnel, he attempted to flee but was swiftly apprehended, and the stolen items were successfully recovered. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for discreet investigation, and Elem is expected to face charges in court upon the conclusion of the investigation.

The police reiterated their commitment to safeguarding public assets and maintaining law and order, urging the public to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
