Police and Berom Youth Clash Over Mass Burial Attack Claims

On May 6, 2026, the Plateau State Police Command issued a statement denying reports of an attack during a mass burial for seven terror victims in Barkin Ladi. The police described the claims as false and exaggerated, asserting that no incidents occurred during the burial, which was conducted under strict security supervision.

However, on May 7, 2026, the Berom Youth Moulder Association countered the police's position, confirming that an attempted attack did occur during the burial, resulting in injuries to three members of their group. They emphasized the need for accurate public records regarding the incident, noting that the initial attack had led to the mass burial of seven victims, not five.

The youth group called for proactive security measures to prevent further violence in vulnerable communities, highlighting the reality of their experiences and the need for improved surveillance and intelligence gathering.
