Police Rescue Pregnant Teen, Arrest Exploitation Suspect

On June 17, the Anambra State Police Command conducted a raid in Achalla, Awka North Local Government Area, rescuing a 15-year-old pregnant girl and arresting Tochukwu Nwora, who is accused of child exploitation and sexual abuse. The operation was initiated based on intelligence reports regarding the involvement of local youth in the use of crystal methamphetamine, known as mkpuru mmiri.
Police spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga stated that preliminary investigations revealed the teenager had been subjected to abuse by several adult males over time in various locations, including Nando, Nteje, and Achalla. It is believed that Nwora took advantage of the girl's vulnerable condition, offering her small sums of money.
The victim has been placed under protective custody and transferred to a police hospital in Awka for medical evaluation and necessary care. Commissioner of Police Ikioy Orutugu has directed the case to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a comprehensive investigation, which will also determine if any parents or guardians were negligent or complicit in the circumstances surrounding the case.
