Presidency Defends Tinubu Against Obi's Claims

The Presidency, through Special Adviser on Information and Strategy Bayo Onanuga, criticized Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), for his assertion that politicians, including President Bola Tinubu, are not driven by ideological considerations when selecting political platforms. Obi made these comments during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today.

He compared his political journey, which included affiliations with the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP), African Democratic Congress (ADC), and NDC, to Tinubu's transitions from the Alliance for Democracy (AD) to Action Congress (AC), Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), and ultimately the All Progressives Congress (APC). Onanuga defended Tinubu's political consistency, stating that he has adhered to a progressive ideology since the early 1990s, contrasting it with Obi's frequent changes in political platforms for personal ambitions.

He highlighted Tinubu's history of political involvement, including his election as senator in 1992 and his governorship of Lagos State starting in 1999.
