Polytechnic Students Protest Alabuga Start Recruitment Scam

Polytechnic students protested against the Alabuga Start program, which they allege is a recruitment scam that exploits young women by promising free flights and high salaries for jobs in Europe without requiring work experience or certifications. John Orimisan, a spokesperson for the Student Union, highlighted the program's deceptive nature, stating that it targets vulnerable students, particularly young women, and likened it to a 21st-century human trafficking scheme.

The union has initiated a campaign to raise awareness about the dangers of the program, distributing notices around campus and addressing students directly in lecture halls and hostels. They urged female students not to apply or share personal details with anyone offering such opportunities.

Comrad Joseph Daniel, a member of the Student Union government, also criticized the program on local radio, emphasizing the need for young people to protect themselves from becoming victims of these scams. The Alabuga Start program has drawn widespread condemnation from human rights groups for its exploitation of individuals from poor backgrounds in African countries.
