Portland Gas Launches 96,000 SCM CNG Station in Lagos

Portland Gas has inaugurated a 96,000 standard cubic meter (SCM) compressed natural gas (CNG) daughter station in Ojota, Lagos. The facility, which was commissioned recently, is designed to significantly improve access to CNG and reduce wait times for consumers.

The current storage capacity of 96,000 SCM can accommodate multiple truck load cycles daily, operating under a virtual pipeline model sourced from a third-party mother station. Plans are underway to connect directly to the Axxela Gaslink pipeline network, enabling Portland Gas to become a supplier and distributor of gas to daughter stations across the state, thereby expanding CNG infrastructure nationwide.

The firm has invested approximately $4 million in the Lagos-Abuja project, which includes the development of additional facilities expected to become operational in a few months, including the flagship mother station, an LCNG station in Gwagwalada. Folajimi Moham, the Chief Executive Officer of Portland Gas, commended the MDGIF for its commitment to ensuring streamlined application processes for funding, which is crucial for the growth of Nigeria's gas infrastructure.
