Poverty Not an Excuse for Crime, Says Nigerian Correctional Service

The Nigerian Correctional Service, represented by Adekunbi, addressed inmates at the Agodi Medium Security Custodial Centre in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Thursday. The discussion emphasized that poverty is not a valid excuse for committing crimes.

Citing the late Chief Moshood Abiola, who rose from a poor background to become a significant figure in Nigeria, the service highlighted that individuals can achieve greatness regardless of their circumstances. The debate was organized in collaboration with BTRRI, led by Nana Tanko, to assist in the rehabilitation and reintegration of inmates into society.

The initiative aims to develop empathy and confidence among inmates, encouraging them to become responsible citizens and positively contribute to their communities. The overarching mission of the Nigerian Correctional Service is to reform and integrate inmates into society as constructive members.
