Abuja Charity Half Marathon Targets Infant Mortality

The Run Club Abuja will host its sixth charity half marathon on July 11, 2026, with a goal to raise ₦12.4 million for neonatal intervention aimed at reducing infant mortality. The funds will be used to procure critical neonatal medical equipment for two public hospitals in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), particularly serving rural communities.

The chairperson of the local organizing committee, Peju Lawanson, stated that the marathon has evolved into a platform for community development and social impact. The event is expected to attract around 1,000 participants competing in various race categories, including a 21.1-kilometer half marathon, a 10-kilometer race, and a 5-kilometer race.

Buchi Onyegbul, president of Run Club Abuja, confirmed that race slots are selling well, reflecting confidence in the event. Toni Edeh, managing director and chief executive officer of Norrenberg Financial Group, emphasized the importance of corporate sponsorship in supporting maternal and child healthcare initiatives.
