Nigerian House Extends 2025 Capital Budget Deadline

The Nigerian House of Representatives has approved a three-month extension for the execution of the 2025 capital budget, shifting the deadline from June 30, 2026, to September 30, 2026. This decision was made during an emergency session led by Speaker Tajudeen Abba, following the passage of a proposed legislation to amend the 2025 Appropriation Act.

House Leader Prof. Julius Ihonvber emphasized that the amendment does not alter budget provisions but merely extends the validity period for capital expenditures.

He noted that many capital projects remain incomplete, and failing to extend the budget would adversely affect the nation's economic growth and development. The House also announced changes in leadership within its committees, appointing Ali Madaki as chairman of the Committee on Special Duties, Ali Isa for the Committee on Ship Services, Pascal Agbodik for the Committee on Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria, and Kelechi Nwogu for the Committee on Hydrological Services.
