Reps Group Demands Probe into Osun Election Violence

The Save Democracy Group, a bipartisan platform of members of the House of Representatives, has demanded a full investigation into the violence and deaths associated with the 2026 Osun State governorship election. The group expressed that political competition should not justify the loss of lives.

They specifically called for an inquiry into a viral video allegedly showing Senator Francis Fadahunsi making comments interpreted as inciting violence against members of the Accord Party in Ilesa. The statement, issued in Abuja and signed by leaders Awaji-Inombek Abiante (NDC, Rivers), Abubakar Kusada (APC, Katsina), and Mansur Jega (ADC, Kebbi), emphasized the need for accountability for every death resulting from political violence.

The group noted the Nigeria Police Force's investigation into 30 politically motivated killings and cited civil society reports of 56 violent incidents and 14 fatalities. They questioned the effectiveness of security personnel deployment in Osun State and urged comprehensive investigations by relevant authorities, including the Inspector-General of Police and the Department of State Services.
