Imo Residents Urge Road Rehabilitation Amid Isolation

Residents of Umuokanne and Ohoba communities in Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area of Imo State have appealed to the state government for the rehabilitation of a major road that has been neglected for over 15 years. The road, which connects multiple communities in Imo and Rivers States, has deteriorated to the point of being impassable, forcing residents and motorists to seek longer alternative routes.

Cyril Nokaa, a resident, stated that the poor condition of the road has severely impacted farmers' ability to transport their produce to markets and has disconnected them from neighboring communities. He expressed concerns over rising insecurity, noting that the road's abandonment has allowed criminals to operate freely, leading to fears of kidnapping and robbery.

Access to healthcare has also been compromised, as residents can no longer reach the nearby Umuokanne General Hospital, which has fallen into disrepair. Ekeruo Promise, a community leader, emphasized the road's importance as an "interconnectivity road" linking various communities.
