Okonkwo Claims Corruption Allegations Against Atiku Are Political

Kenneth Okonkwo, the spokesperson for African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, stated that the renewed corruption allegations against Abubakar are politically motivated. Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, Okonkwo referenced investigations from 2005 and 2006 involving former US Congressman William Jefferson, asserting that Atiku was exonerated and that no evidence of bribery was found.

He questioned the timing of these allegations as Nigeria approaches the 2027 presidential election, suggesting that similar claims resurface during election years. Okonkwo criticized the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for its ongoing interest in the matter, arguing it could disrupt the political process.

He claimed that political forces aim to prevent Atiku from contesting the presidency due to his intentions to improve the lives of Nigerians. Additionally, Okonkwo mentioned that Atiku is prepared for a public debate with President Bola Tinubu, emphasizing the need for Nigerians to hear directly from presidential candidates about their plans.
